Learning the Crochet basics.

My story on learning the crochet basics.

I wasn’t exactly new to Crocheting on the day I joined the class.

I had previous experience from crocheting in secondary school.

I just wanted to know how to do other styles beyond just the scarf, hair ruffle, and shawl I had mastered.

To fulfill all righteousness, I had to go through the whole process afresh.

I learned about the basic crochet tools (I only knew about acrylic yarn and some hooks).

I saw various hook sizes depending on the yarn you are working with.

Then about yarns, there are yarns and there are yarns. My favourite is the T-shirt yarn.

Quite expensive compared to the regular yarn we see in the market.

Then we moved to how to hold a yarn and the crochet hook, I knew this.

What I didn’t know was the starter part of every project.

You either start with what was called a slip knot with a set of chains or you start with a magic circle.

Every crocheter I have had the pleasure of seeing them work has its way of doing a slip knot or a magic circle.

I figured it out and stuck with my own style.

Then came the stitch type. Just like sewing with a needle has names for different stitches, so does crochet.

I lost all the photos I had taken at the beginning and so I have no beginner, messy, trial-work photos to show you.

So I worked with the slip knot, tried my hands on a couple of chains, did a line of single crochet, and ended my crochet practice for the day.
